After two tough defeats on the road, the Tigers roared back and got their first win of the season over the Texas Southern University Tigers.
Rick Comegy, Head Coach for Jackson State’s football team, showed great pride as he opened the press conference explaining the keys to victory.
Although the coach and the players are glad to be home, they still have a few things to work on before the first home game against the Southern University Jaguars. The Jaguars currently have a (0-2) record.
The Jaguars took a 6-0 loss to Mississippi Valley State University last weekend.
While this could be a good reason to underestimate the Jaguars, Comegy said that by no means will he nor the team be taking this game lightly.
In order to keep the Jaguars from gaining their first victory of the season, Comegy has been more focused on the basic fundamentals of the game and doing a lot of review of previous games.
“I want to work more on the mistakes such as fumbles and penalties,” said Comegy.
In the game against Texas Southern, Jackson State had a total of five fumbles and eight penalties. Even though Comegy was not happy at all about the fumbles, he is proud of the way the offensive players hustled to recover the fumbles, only allowing the Jaguars to receive two of the lost balls.
Going in to this big game, Comegy also plans to adjust the defense and push them to be more aggressive tacklers.
He also plans to start Clayton Moore because he loved the edge and patience that he displayed during the game versus TSU.
While it is up to the players to work hard and gain the victory, they need the Tiger crowd to support them to the victory.
Comegy said, “Jackson State is tied for the best, if not the best team crowd and is looking forward to a packed house on Saturday, September 22, 2012.”
The battle of the big cats is set for kick-off at 4 p.m. at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
