Jackson State University students now have a place to charge electric cars if they choose to purchase them thanks to Entergy Mississippi.
Micheal Thomas, the vice President of Business and Finance, hopes this option will help students who want to save on gas.
On Oct.10, Entergy unveiled the charger manufactured by ‘Coulomb Technolgies’. JSU joined Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, as one of Mississippi’s first major forays into the EV market.
“Electric vehicles are gaining widespread acceptance as an important technology solution for the nation’s energy future,” said Napolean Johnson, Vice President of Customer Operations for Entergy Mssissippi, Inc. “However, the infrastructure must be in place to support the evolution of the technology.We hope our donation of EV chargers to these Mississippi universities will help start that process in this state.”
Currently, these charging stations have the ability to provide a full charge to any electric vehicle on the market. They were donated to these three universities to aid in the technological advancement and were paid for Entergy shareholders. Supposedly, the next generation of affordable, driver- friendly EV’s such as the Nissan Leaf, are evolving in the U.S. Market.
Approximately, total of 3.2 million plug in vehicles are going to be sold around the world.
“The Jackson State University community is excited about the partnership with the Entergy to provide an electric vehicle charging station on our campus,” said Johnson.
