The Beat of the Capital 97.7, Patty Peck Honda and the Jackson Convention Complex kicked off its 4th annual Rock the Runway fashion show on Feb. 5.
Described as one of the biggest fashion events in the state, over 50 models, 30 designers, various boutiques and vendors all come together for the annual event. Proceeds for this event benefit P.A.L.S., a youth transitional group home.
Three Jackson State University students hit the runway to help support the cause: Danielle Bryant, Jasmine Mccloud and Princess K. Hollins.
The models arrived early that morning to begin the process of hair and makeup, wardrobe fittings, and runway practice.
“I am so excited about walking in tonight’s fashion show,” said Jasmine Mccloud, a junior mass communications major from Detroit, Mich. “I really love to model and I am so privileged to have this opportunity.”
Once the models were done getting glammed up and practiced their catwalks, the models were able to network and show off their fashions during the Denim Magazine cocktail lounge and Patty Peck Honda red carpet event.
“I feel so amazing right now . . . I am able to live out my dream of modeling and walk the red carpet,” said Princess K. Hollins, a sophomore psychology major, from Jackson, Miss. “Not only do I have an opportunity to model, but I get the chance to meet so many new people and network . . . I love it.”
After the cocktail lounge and red carpet event, the models were ready to set center stage and Rock the Runway. The opening of the event was hosted by Gary with Da Tee from the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show, along with 97.7’s Tambra Cherie.
The start of the showed featured a New Orleans Mardi Gras inspired theme where the models pranced around with Mardi Gras apparel and props to welcome guests into the show. After that, the models quickly changed their clothing and prepared for their scenes as they hit the runway featuring fashions from various boutiques.
During a series of catwalks and 14 different scene changes the models were fantastic as they walked down the runway and closed out the show. After the fashion show, special thanks was given to Chanelle Renee’ and J-structure Beauty, and the models did a final walk on the runway during the events finale.
“Tonight’s Rock the Runway event is by far my favorite one, especially since this will probably be one of the last modeling things I do for a while,” said Danielle Bryant, a senior psychology major, from Terry, Miss. “I have a very special project that I am currently working on . . . I am trying to develop my own brand and help create modeling opportunities for other young women within the state of Mississippi because I would love to give back to my community and help other women pursue a career in modeling.”
