From “Hot Girl Summer” to “Icy Boy Winter”, Atlanta rapper Quavo from the group Migos, showed millions his own personal way of shooting a shot in a direct message, also known as a DM, and if it actually worked for him.
Over the weekend, the rapper and his current girlfriend, West Coast rapper Saweetie posted screenshots from 2018 of the beginning stage of their relationship, which was Quavo shooting his shot inside her Instagram messages.
Quavo sent the snowflake emoji referring to his soon-to-be lady as an “Icy Girl ” which was Saweetie’s hit single that year.
Saweetie flirtatiously responded with a stir-fry emoji which was also the Migos hit single during that year as well.
Quavo then replied, “u so icy. Ima glacier boy,” to which she later replied, “was hannin then.” as a way of accepting Quavo’s attempted shot to her.
Quavo later posted a screenshot of the exchanged direct messages on social apps such as Twitter and Instagram, quoting the post with, “HOW I PULLED UP: HOW WE COMING”
He also tweeted a recent picture of the two together with a side-by-side of their screenshot.
Saweetie quoted the same tweet replying, “Straight to the point I been wanting this man” with laughing emojis.
After the tweets circulated, many others thought they could accomplish the same goal with shooting their shot to their long-time crushes.
Some shot the opportunity down, while others actually started new relationships from the two emoji’s.

Dherron Ward, a freshman education major from Jackson, Miss., gave an example of what shooting a shot is like.
“Shooting shots is like getting your degree, you can’t just jump into your major. You have to start from the bottom and build forward. You have to get to know the person before shooting for the stars,” said Ward.
One student stated what she felt about a guy shooting their shot to her.
“I like a guy who can step to the cause and make things happen for the both of us. Shooting your shot first is risky as a female because it makes it seem as if we are going to submit to them,” said Dominique Mayberry, a senior engineering major from Columbus, Ga.
Calvin Wright, a sophomore meteorology major from Dallas, Texas stated, “There’s no such thing as shooting your shot, that’s a myth. You have to click to actually find a connection before you jump into a talking stage.”
With that being said, love comes in mysterious ways. There are so many unique ways to shoot your shot or get to know somebody, whether it is through a text, social app, or in-person. It is all so risky.
It definitely takes great courage to shoot and actually make the shot to that desired person, this is just a different way.
