The Spring 2024 Career Expo sponsored by the Jackson State University Career Services Center (CSC), took place on Feb. 22, 2024 and featured over 100 top corporate recruiters looking to add the next generation of black leaders to their companies.

In an article on JSUNews, CSC Executive Director Lashanda W. Jordan, Ph.D., urged students to attend.

“I implore all students to join us at the Spring 2024 Career Expo. This will be an excellent opportunity for them to unlock their potential and ignite their future. Come and connect with leading employers, explore diverse opportunities, and chart your path toward a rewarding career journey. Your next big opportunity awaits,” said Jordan.

As the spring semester at Jackson State University slowly comes to an end, the beginning of a new chapter for students also draws closer.

With JSU’s commencement right around the corner, thousands of students are preparing themselves to enter a whole new world of opportunity known as the workforce.

The process of finding your first job out of college is known to be a difficult task, but luckily for students, Jackson State University has their backs. Every year Jackson State hosts a career fair tailored to help students with various career goals and aspirations meet with companies who can guide them in the right direction.

Companies were set up in several booths inside the Walter Payton Center, giving students an opportunity to have face-to-face interactions with potential employers. Jackson State also gave students a chance to receive a free headshot with the photographer Ken Gordon, giving students a better chance to network inside and outside of the Expo.

Current students and alumni all gathered around to network with well-known companies such as NASA, Nissan, and PepsiCo. The Expo also catered to students who wanted to browse more local opportunities, including companies like the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi, Mississippi Public Broadcasting and more.

The Expo offered a numerous number of companies to cater to every major and field of studies.

Niyah Cohen, junior business marketing major, appreciates the opportunity provided by the Career Services.

“I love that JSU does these things where we {the students} get a chance to communicate directly with future employers and hopefully score an internship and/ or full-time position,” said Cohen.

Mackenzie Williams, a sophomore computer engineering major stated welcomed the opportunity as well.

“At the time I am looking for an internship for the summer so this event gives me the tools to possibly get that internship but also to make connections that I can keep in contact with. Plus, a free headshot like c’mon you can’t beat that good job JSU,” said Williams.

Austin Ellis, talent acquisition with the Netlink Voice company, voiced his confidence in the Career Expo.

“It is really clear that the school knows how to put on a Career Expo, and I am definitely excited about meeting so many potential prospects that are so eager to get their foot in the door,” said Ellis.
