Director of Bands
Dr. Roderick Little

Roderick Little serves as the Assistant Professor of Music – Director of Bands. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education and a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education Administration from Jackson State University. He oversees the total JSU band program and conducts the University Wind Ensemble.

Kevan Johnson
Associate Director of Bands
Mr. Kevan Johnson

Kevan Johnson serves as Instructor of Music – Associate Director of Bands-Chief Arranger. He received his B.M.E from Jackson. State University and his M.S. in Music Technology from Indiana University – Purdue University. He is the coordinator of Music Technology, teaches instrumental arranging, and Symphonic Band.

Mr. Travis Prewitt

Travis Prewitt serves as Instructor of Music – Assistant Band Director. He received his  B.M.E and M.M.E. degrees from Jackson State University. He teaches music appreciation, brass ensemble, Concert Band and Pep Band.

Assistant Band Director

Mr. Calvin Berry

Dr. Justin Sherrod serves as Instructor of Music – Assistant Band Director/Director of Percussion. He received his  B.M.E at Jackson State University and  M.M.E. and D.M.A. degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He oversees the percussion, teaches percussion methods, intro to theory, and percussion ensemble.

Mrs. Chloe Ashley Crowley
Chloé Ashley Crowley serves as the Prancing J-Settes Director. She graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in dance education from New York University.

Ms. Courtney Lett
Courtney Lett serves as the Band Operations/Logistics Coordinator of the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band. In this capacity, Courtney serves as a liaison between on-campus departments, booking agencies, and external agents.
Retention and Compliance Coordinator
Mrs. Keri Saupitty-Stewart
Keri Stewart currently serve as the Retention and Compliance Coordinator for the Sonic Boom of the South Scholars and is a graduated from Jackson State University. She previously served in the Academic Advisement Center at JSU.
Voice of the Sonic Boom
Mr. Richard Myers
Richard Myers serves as announcer (2012-Present) for the Sonic Boom of the South. A native of Jackson, Ms. Mr. Myers was a mass communication major at Thee I Love Jackson State University. He’s also been the public address announcer for JSU sports since 1994. He has three children, Richard, Ryan, and Tameri.
