Dale Gibbs is the featured guest for this episode of the “The JSU Legacy Project” podcast.
This new series by University Communications spotlights leaders, legends and newsmakers who have influenced the history of Jackson State University.
In this episode of ‘The JSU Legacy Project’, creative writer/editor Rachel James-Terry speaks with Dale Gibbs, widow of Phillip Gibbs. In this interview, Dale recounts the story of her courtship and marriage to Phillip, before delving into details surrounding his death and her struggle to overcome the pain and sorrow that still lingers in her heart 50 years later.
This story is remarkable. I think often times as young people we feel so displaced for the events of the Civil Rights Movement. This episode allows us to humanize victims of the violence brought to African Americans during the movement. I thank you for your graceful responses and sharing the bright life of Philip Gibbs.
Ms. Dale Gibbs is a strong, accomplished, dignified woman whose sharing of her story helps those of us who knew Phillip and who survived that night heal a bit more. Thank you so much for the touching account of your experience, and may God continue to bless you and your family.
