Overview of Reaffirmation

Representatives of the JSU Leadership Team convened at the Annual Meeting in December 2018 as members of the SACSCOC Reaffirmation Class of 2021. In April 2019 the reaffirmation kick-off was launched with varying constituents of the institution. Institutional members are involved in research, writing, and review of key components of the reaffirmation process. These efforts will focus on preparing two documents:

  • The Compliance Certification
  • The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

The Compliance Certification is the report and supporting documentation used by the institution attesting its determination of the extent of compliance with each of the Principles of Accreditation. The effectiveness of the institution is evaluated in a variety of ways including:

  • Mission, governance, administration, and organization
  • Faculty
  • Institutional planning and effectiveness
  • Student achievement
  • Educational program structure and content
  • Educational policies, procedures, and practices
  • Library and learning/information resources
  • Academic and student support services
  • Financial and physical resources
  • Transparency and Institutional Representation

Committees of faculty, staff, administrators, and students have been established to collect this data and respond to the corresponding SACSCOC standards.  SACSCOC reviewers will then evaluate JSU based on the completed compliance certification and supporting documentation.

The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), submitted six weeks in advance of the On-Site Reaffirmation Review Committee, is (a) a topic identified through ongoing, comprehensive and evaluation processes, (b) has broad-based support of institutional constituencies, (c) focuses on improving specific student learning outcomes and/or student successes, (d) commits resources to initiate, implement and complete the QEP; and (e) includes a plan to assess achievement.
